ASHLEY DANIEL FOOT- Program Director, CYMC Musical Theatre/ Vocal Director, 2010 Creative Team

Ashley Daniel Foot, is an award winning operatic tenor, actor, director, producer, and broadcaster. Currently living in Montreal, Ashley has studied vocal performance and opera at McGill University and the University of Toronto. His teachers have included William and Dixie Neill (Ben Heppner is among their students) Daryl Edwards, and Rosemarie Landry.

At home singing opera, lieder, spirituals folk music, rock and roll, or musical theatre, Ashley has won numerous singing prizes including the Best Male Voice at the National Music Festival (BC Division), First Prize in Senior Voice at the BC Festival of the Arts, and the Ladies Morning Musical Club of Toronto Scholarship for Distinction in Vocal Arts. In demand as a soloist, Ashley performs with various choirs and symphonies across Canada including the FACE Orchestra and Anima Musica. Ashley also maintains a busy studio of vocal students in Montreal.

As a performer Ashley has appeared in numerous theatrical productions across Canada. Select credits include Chicago, Cabaret, and Evita for CYMC, The Glass Menagerie for Network Performing Arts, and Wit for Toronto’s Explorer Theatre. Ashley’s film and tv credits include Triple Sensation for CBC Television and Sylvestor Stallone’s Driven.

Ashley got his performing start at the Comox Valley Youth Music Centre and continues to return to the Comox Valley each summer as an educator and performer.

Ashley was appointed program director of CYMC Musical Theatre in 2008. Ashley launched CYMC’s Front Row Summer brand that year and imported Broadway star Julia Murney to the Comox Valley to instruct students.

As a broadcaster Ashley’s documentaries have appeared numerous times on CBC radio’s “Outfront” and “Sounds Like Canada” In 2008, Ashley won first prize in the National New Media competition, Digital Diversity for his documentary “Singing Pictures: The Musical Lives of Jim and Sheila Johnson” . In 2006 Ashley launched an exciting new radio program called Radio Allegro that has been featured on public radio in the states and has been featured in the New York Times. In his spare time Ashley enjoys taking his Rhodesian Ridgeback, Parker for long walks.
